Abstract
Although Chicana/o ethnic identity has been studied extensively, the process of ethnic identity development and the relationship between ethnic identity and other aspects of social identity (such as racial identity) are still not well understood. This article presents a review of the research on Chicana/o ethnic identity, focusing on the early work on the National Chicano Survey, as well as more recent research with Chicana/o children, adolescents, and young adults. Important advances and shortcomings of this work are identified. The findings are discussed in the context of implications for researchers and counselors. Keywords
