Abstract
Control of Skeletal RemodelingFrom the point of view of control mechanics, remodeling exhibits two control loops with negative feedback characteristics: parathyroid-calcitonin-mediated resorption, serving calcium homeostasis; and the effects of mechanical forces on the skeleton, whereby the mass and arrangement of the skeletal material is altered to meet changing structural needs. The first is essentially a systemic process, and the second a local phenomenon, though the two importantly interact at the level of the cells that mediate them. In addition a very large number of factors, including mineral nutrition, hormonal balance, systemic or local disease and aging, have important skeletal . . .Keywords
