Abstract
In order to evaluate the laser potentialities of various crystals or to compare one crystal with another of changed composition, concentration, etc., optical measurements of a figure of merit with reference to a particular pumping device are described which can be performed on slabs without laser end faces. Such measurements can be carried out by irradiation with white light in which the fluorescence wavelength under study has been suppressed. If optical apparatus for this selective band suppression is not available, the evaluation of the figure of merit is shown for monochromatic irradiation. Keywords
