Abstract
Using a simple nonrelativistic quark model, we examine the decays of -wave baryons to ground-state baryons via pion emission. As a consequence, the strength of the quark-quark-pion vertex can be estimated and is compared with the results of other authors. Further, investigation of relativistic corrections indicates that although the value of the coupling can be highly dependent on the technique used for these corrections, it varies only moderately within a given technique for a range of energies of our interest.
