Abstract
A quality assurance programme for blood glucose measuring meters is described. The need for careful quality control of blood sugar measurement became apparent after several discrepancies had occurred between results of tests carried out in clinical areas and those undertaken in the laboratory. This programme comprises a quality control scheme organised by the Chief MLSO, Department of Biochemistry, regular training sessions conducted by the Diabetic Specialist Nurse and a monitoring system for electro‐mechanical defects. Following the introduction of this quality control scheme, a gradual improvement in the accuracy of results obtained has been demonstrated over a twelve‐month period. Keywords
