ENCEPHALITIS AS A CAUSATIVE FACTOR IN BEHAVIOR DISORDERS OF CHILDREN

Abstract
The following report is of observations made on 78 children who were referred to the Child Guidance Home because of personality difficulties and behavior disorders which were found to be causally related to a previous attack of encephalitis. At this point a word about the procedure which has been employed at the Child Guidance Home since its inception in 1920 is appropriate. Every child admitted for observation is studied from the psychobiologic point of view, which entails a knowledge and understanding of all the factors, physical, psychiatric, psychologic and sociologic, which may be involved in a given case; in other words, a study of the total situation, a procedure which has been recently emphasized by various authors.1It was only after the evaluation of the findings made from such an extensive study that the aforementioned relationship in the 78 cases was made.
