Abstract
Two new methods of bandwidth normalization using root mean square (RMS) techniques are described. Comparison is made with conventional techniques using several typical sources and detectors. Methods of placement of the passband are also discussed. A simple RMS technique yields results with approximately 30% less error than conventional peak normalization, while a more complex iterative process yields results with even lower errors. Implementation of these methods is indicated when the spectral radiance of either the source or the detector is unknown. Keywords
