Abstract
Electron temperature and density in gas discharges used for positive‐column He–Se+ lasers measured with the probe method are described and compared with those for positive‐column He–Cd+ lasers. It is shown that the electron temperature in the positive‐column He–Se+ laser does not decrease very rapidly with increasing metal vapor pressure although it decreases significantly in the positive‐column He–Cd+ laser. The changes of the electron densities in the two also are different. The importance fo the charge‐exchange excitation mechanism and the difference of excitation mechanisms in the two are discussed. This publication has 12 references indexed in Scilit:
