Treatment and follow-up studies with co-trimoxazole in enteric fever and in typhoid carriers

Abstract
The use of co-trimoxazole in 56 patients with typhoid and paratyphoid infections is reported. Forty-five of the 48 patients with enteric fever responded to treatment. There were three convalescent excretors of Salmonella typhi but only one became a carrier. Eight carriers were treated with co-trimoxazole. Six of these have been followed-up and only one continues to excrete the infecting organism in stools.
