Abstract
The trade-off between data construction and model modification varies with the economic system that is used to describe regional economic activity. Some data, such as gross regional product, may he necessary in nearly all specifications of regional economic systems, while other information, like personal consumption expenditures, may not be missed by some model builders. This paper will discuss the data that is available, a sampling of the various descriptions of regional economic systems that have been used in regional econometric models, and the apparent trade-offs that have been made.
