Abstract
The impact parameter method is formulated for general atom-atom collisions, taking full account of the electron spin. A full discussion of reflection symmetry in the scattering plane is given and a useful relation resulting from time-reversal invariance is derived. The validity of the impact parameter method is then investigated for the near resonant charge exchange process H++Xe to H+Xe+(2P12/). Good agreement with experiment is obtained. Keywords
