Abstract
Equilibrium polarization has been computed from equations governing balance between drift and diffusion current and Poisson's equation. Various assumptions for the dielectric response were tested: saturation with large electric fields, induced ferroelectric-phase response, and low-frequency dielectric dispersion. The experimental results for the polarization distribution in BaTiO3 near Tc are best explained in terms of a dc dielectric constant exceeding 106, thus differing from the ac dielectric constant by two orders of magnitude. Such large dc dielectric constants are found in electrets. Keywords
