Polarization distribution and space charge in the surface region of Ferroelectrics

Abstract
Equilibrium polarization has been computed from equations governing balance between drift and diffusion current and Poisson's equation. Various assumptions for the dielectric response were tested: saturation with large electric fields, induced ferroelectric-phase response, and low-frequency dielectric dispersion. The experimental results for the polarization distribution in BaTiO3 near Tc are best explained in terms of a dc dielectric constant exceeding 106, thus differing from the ac dielectric constant by two orders of magnitude. Such large dc dielectric constants are found in electrets.
