Abstract
It is hypothesized that since various types of personality disorder require different defences, S's with separate syndromes, when threatened with failure, will respond differentially to a level of aspiration situation. To implement this hypothesis, neurasthenics, paranoid schizophrenics, those with character disorders, conversion hysterics, and normals were administered a level of aspiration test under conditions calculated to maximize ego-involvement. The data tend to support the hypothesis that the five groups respond differentially to threat of failure. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
