Abstract
Electromyography was used to study four leg muscles in thirty-three subjects (six with “normal” feet and twenty-seven with flat feet) while in the standing position, to determine the role of leg muscles in variation of the arches. The soleus muscle showed marked activity in all subjects. The tibialis anterior, tibialis posterior, and peroneus longus muscles were active in the subjects with flat feet.
