Abstract
The regions in parameter space of stable single mode operation of a quasioptical gyrotron are determined theoretically for a number of configurations. A pencil beam is found to give rise to large operating regimes where single mode operation is stable. These regions shrink dramatically when an annular beam is considered. However, stable operation can be restored by slightly tilting the axis of the cavity. Keywords
