Abstract
The natural formation and maintenance of an aggregation of the endemic New Zealand weta, Hemideina crassidens (Blanchard) is discussed. The mechanics of stridulation are examined and 3 basic patterns of stridulation are recorded with the aid of amplitude-v.-time traces, and the insects' responses are noted. Keywords
