Abstract
A preliminary rate study of the reaction of potassium ferrate(VI) with several substituted benzyl alcohols has shown that electron-withdrawing substituents increase the rate of reaction and as well result in the largest intramolecular hydrogen–deuterium isotope effects; the results are discussed in terms of a suggested mechanism for the oxidation process. Keywords
