Abstract
We consider the neutrino energy loss rate due to the photoneutrino process in a hot plasma, including the contribution from positrons present in the blackbody radiation. For a number of limiting regimes of density and temperature (depending on the degree to which the electrons are degenerate and relativistic), we have derived analytic expressions for the rate. A Monte Carlo method has been used to carry out a five-dimensional integration to evaluate the energy loss rate for general values of density and temperature. Numerical results, accurate to a few percent are presented, and a crude interpolation formula is given. Keywords
