Abstract
Sideband resonances have been observed in high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance experiments in which a cylindrical sample is rotated in a magnetic field with a linear gradient. It is shown that these sidebands arise in a manner similar to the sidebands observed when the magnetic field is modulated by an external source. The general question of time dependent local magnetic fields is considered and the effects of coherent fluctuations are compared with those of random fluctuations for several simple models. Keywords
