Abstract
A numerical method of computing ray paths by geometric optics in a cylindrically homogeneous medium is outlined, and then applied in extending Lee's investigation of the disturbance to a high frequency sound field by an internal wave field [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 33, 677–681 (1961)]. In particular, the changes in the ray paths as the wave field propagates between the source and the receiver are displayed on a cathode-ray tube. The resulting fluctuation in the sound intensity field due to the translation of the medium is computed in order to illustrate the signal variance caused by the phenomenon. Keywords
