Hepatosplenic Peliosis after Danazol and Glucocorticoids for ITP

Abstract
To the Editor: Danazol, a steroid with weak androgenic activity, was shown by Ahn et al. to be effective in patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) not responding to splenectomy,1 and its place in the management of refractory ITP was discussed in a recent editorial in the Journal (April 19 issue).2 In view of the grave prognosis of severe refractory ITP, an increasing number of patients with ITP may be given this treatment in the future. It is in this context that the development of peliosis, a life-threatening complication of danazol treatment in one of our patients, should be noted. . . .
