Abstract
Subjects with simple obesity display hyperinsulinism and blunted HGH responsiveness. Examination of forearm metabolism obese subjects reveals a hormonal pattern compatible with basal hyperinsulinism. Furthermore, there is peripheral resistance to all the actions of insulin that we have examined. Important questions remain regarding the etiology of the insulin resistance associated with, and quantitative fatty acid utilization in, obesity. Keywords
