Abstract
Rat hemoglobin was labeled with I131. KC1O4 liberated I2131 from NaI131 which became bound to tyrosine of the globin. Following intravenous injection, the I131 -tagged hemoglobin was cleared from the circulation in an exponential fashion with a t/2 of 25 minutes. Within the dose range tested (3-10 mg/100 g body weight) the clearance rate was unaffected by the dose. No renal elimination of hemoglobin could be detected. Rapid liberation of I131 from the reticulo-endothelial sites responsible for the vascular clearance was noted. Keywords
