Abstract
Echocardiography is a well established, non-invasive diagnostic technique that has assumed a prominent place in the armamentarium of the pediatric cardiologist. The principles and techniques of echocardiography are explained. The measurements and interpretation are described, and the deductive approach that leads to a specific diagnosis. The purpose of this discussion is to provide the pediatrician with an understanding of the appropriate application, value and limitation of the echocardiogram.
