Abstract
La chaleur spécifique du vanadocène a été déterminée entre 100 et 300 K. Une anomalie a été mise en evidence entre 120 et 235 K. La variation, entre 25 et 300 K, des paramètres de la maille monoclinique du vanadocène présente des changements de pente plus ou moins étalés, et deux des coefficients principaux de dilatation thermique ont une valeur extremum vers 160 K. Ces anomalies sur la chaleur spécifique et la dilatation thermique, identiques à celles déjà étudiées pour le nickelocène Ni (C5H5)2, indiquent que la structure du vanadocène est désordonnée à température ambiante et qu'il présente une transition de phase ordre-désordre diffuse entre 120 et 240 K environ. La mise en ordre de la structure, à basse temperature, entraǐne l'apparition dans les cristallites de deux types de domaines énergétiquement équivalents. The heat capacity of vanadocene, V (C5H5)2 has been determined in a differential scanning microcalorimeter of fluxmeter type, from 100 to 300 K, and the thermodynamic functions calculated. An anomaly was found over the temperature range 120 to 235 K, the associated enthalpy and entropy increments are ΔH = 821 J mole−1 and ΔS = 4.64 J K−1 mole−1. The variation of the monoclinic cell parameters of vanadocene has been determined from 25 to 300 K, by X-rays powder high precision diffractometry. The curves a, b, c, and β = f(t) do not exhibit discontinuities but only slope changes, and the temperature dependence of the cell volume is characterized by a small increment in the range from 140 to 240 K. The principal coefficients of thermal expansion were calculated, two of them exhibit an extremum near 160 K. The vanadocene structure is isomorphous, at room temperature, to the ferrocene and nickelocene ones which are disordered. So, these anomalies on heat capacity and thermal expansion suggest that the vanadocene structure is disordered at 295 K and it has an order-disorder diffuse transition over the temperature range 120 to 240 K. At low temperature the structural evolution of vanadocene is quite similar to nickelocene one: the values and the directions of the principal coefficients of thermal expansion and their temperature dependence are the same for both compounds; as in nickelocene, moreover, the ordering of the structure leads to the appearance of two types of energetically equivalent domains in the crystallites.Keywords
