CERVICAL VERTEBRAL EROSION CAUSED BY VERTEBRAL ARTERY TORTUOSITY

Abstract
Several cases now have been reported in which erosion of a cervical vertebral body and pedicle has been shown angiographically to be caused by tortuosity of a vertebral artery. A cited postmortem study suggests that this may occur rather frequently. The predominant anterosuperior direction of the resulting intervertebral foraminal enlargement appears characteristic, and this may be helpful in making the diagnosis from plain roentgenograms. Etiology of the tortuosity and relationship of the finding to the patient’s symptoms remain uncertain.
