Abstract
PASSIVE immune neonatal thrombocytopenia is caused by the transplacental passage of platelet antibodies, either from a mother with autoimmune thrombocytopenia or from one who is alloimmunized by her infant's platelets.1 2 3 Usually, the transfer of autoantibodies from a mother with autoimmune disease is heralded by coexistent maternal thrombocytopenia, although in compensated thrombocytolytic states the maternal platelet count can be normal while the infant is thrombocytopenic.4 , 5 In contrast, neonatal thrombocytopenia due to transfer of alloantibodies (allo-NT) is associated with a normal maternal platelet count. Thus, the first sign of allo-NT can be extensive purpura at birth, occasionally accompanied by intracerebral hemorrhage that . . .Keywords
