Abstract
In order that an aircraft or missile may be launched or may alight in a substantially vertical attitude without drift, the launching or alighting apparatus is provided with cradle permitting freedom of angular movement of the longitudinal axis of the aircraft or missile. As shown in FIG. 1 a launching trolley 7 is fitted with a gimbal ring 1 connected to vertical pillars 6 by pivots 3, and also provided with yokes 5 to engage trunnions 4 projecting from the fuselage 2 and disposed perpendicular to the hinges 3. FIG. 2 shows an alighting gear consisting of two pairs of retractable extensible legs 6 connected at their upper ends to trunnions 7 passing through slots in the fuselage 2 to engage a gimbal ring 1 within the fuselage, to which it is connected by perpendicularly disposed pivots 3. A similar arrangement of gimbal ring may be used for launching gear. Keywords
