Abstract
Dental casts of 30 children with normal occlusion were studied including the deciduous and permanent dentition as well as different developmental stages of the mixed dentition. There was a mean increment in 3/4 of the samples of 1.9 mm at the apex. The alveolar processes continuously increased in height and breadth. The increase in height (mean 3.59 mm) is proportionally greater than in breadth (mean 4.01 mm). The superposition of the mid-saggital palatal outline showed a relative parallelism on a short section (8.0 mm) only. The increment at the apex of the vault may be due to growth at the mid-palatal suture, to bone remodelling or to both factors.
