Abstract
We report a new type of inertial translation device that uses a single piezoelectric tube. In contrast to previous inertial translation devices which must operate in horizontal position, this new design can operate in any position, even vertical. This makes possible the construction of a compact high‐stability thermally compensated low temperature scanning tunneling microscope, specially suited to designs that allow for a very short tip and sample change time. Keywords
