Abstract
The axisymmetric radiation of sound from a finite gap in an otherwise infinite rigid, hollow, cylindrical duct is examined using a method which, whilst equivalent to, has several advantages over the modified Wiener-Hopf technique. The total sound field is expressed as the sum of that for a semi-infinite duct (which is known exactly) plus two interaction potentials (which must be determined). In this way the problem is reformulated as two coupled Wiener-Hopf-type problems which are then solved for the unknown interaction potentials. Asymptotic results are presented for the case when the separation distance between the duct edges is large. Keywords
