Abstract
This jaw movement recording device uses a light-weight adjustable headframe to which are affixed three pairs of photocells, and a small rod carrying two miniature light sources, which is fixed to the lower teeth so that it does not interfere with normal function. The rod lights illuminate the photocell pairs, and the electrical outputs from the cell pairs are balanced and the signals fed to the pen-writing unit of a four channel recroder, via push-pull D.C. amplifiers. Movement of the lower jaw in relationship to the head causes the lights to move in relationship to the photocells, and results in deflections of the pens of the recorder. Jaw movements, both normal and abnormal, trace easily recognised patterns on the recording paper. Other channels of the recorder can be used to correlate jaw movements with tooth contact patterns, joint and muscle abberations. The device provides permanent and easily analysed jaw movement records. Keywords
