Über die Biosynthese der p-Aminobenzoesäure II. / Biosynthesis of p-Aminobenzoic Acid II.

Abstract
Starting with a polyauxotrophic mutant 62-1 of Aerobacter aerogenes, which accumulates chorismic acid, a p-aminobenzoic acid deficient mutant was obtained by treatment with 1-methyl-3-nitro-1-nitrosoguanidine. The mutant was found to produce an intermediate of p-aminobenzoic acid biosynthesis not observed hitherto. This compound feeds one of two p-aminobenzoic acid deficient mutants of Escherichia coli. It becomes converted to p-aminobenzoic acid by heat treatment in aqueous solution.
