Abstract
The peak energy E0 and full width U, in ev, of the color centers in Al2 O3 before irradiation are: E0=5.45, U=0.6; E0=4.84, U=0.54; with an indication of a band at E0>6.2, U>0.4. Irradiation of 3×104 r produces saturation of the gamma-ray-induced bands which occur at E0=5.45, U=1.25; E0=3.08, U=1.50; and probably an additional band at E0=4.28, U=0.70. Reactor irradiation produces bands at E0=6.02, U=0.60; E0=5.35; U=0.40; E0=4.85, U=0.54; E0=4.21, U=0.80; E0=3.74, U=0.88; E0=2.64, U=0.64; and E0=2.00, U=0.44.
