A Test of the Alternation-(“Lattice”-)Hypothesis with Divalent and Trivalent Haptens

Abstract
Summary: A prediction of the alternation-(-“lattice”-“mutual-multi-valence”-“framework”) hypothesis that antibody and divalent hapten should precipitate, was tested with a variety of haptens. Unfavorable evidence was obtained; visible precipitation did not occur. In the absence of proof to the contrary, the possibility remains that the precipitation of divalent haptens by antibody observed by others is due to the fact that they were not molecularly dispersed, as Landsteiner originally suggested.
