Abstract
To test the reliability of variational calculations in nuclear problems the energy and wave function for the ground state of is first computed variationally and then compared to the results obtained from the exact solution. For an exponential potential and for a wave function in the form of an exponential times a power series, we find that the variational method is accurate and rapidly convergent.
