Abstract
The effect of estrogen on polysaccharides of rat skin has been investigated. Skin homogenates were prepared from normal and estrogen injected male rats. The contents of the homogenates of hexosamines were determined. Furthermore, homogenates were extracted with O.14 [image] NaCl in order to obtain polysaccharides. The extracts were applied to paper for electrophoresis either directly, or after digestion with testicular hyaluronidase, in order to isolate and differentiate the various polysaccharides. On the basis of the results obtained, it is suggested that estrogen has an inhibitory action on the synthesis of chondroitin sulphate B of skin connective tissue. Keywords
