Abstract
Diamagnetic shielding factors for a number of atoms and ions are evaluated using relativistic electron theory in the Hartree-Fock-Slater approximation. The results agree well with previous nonrelativistic values for light atoms but include relativistic corrections which rise to 62% for Hg.Keywords
