Abstract
To analyze the metal cutting mechanism in the transitional cutting stage after first contact between the cutting tool and the work material, the theory of pseudo-steady plastic flow was applied. Determining the relation between friction angle on tool face and cutting time by cutting test, the change of cutting mechanism during the transitional stage was analyzed theoretically. This was compared with the experimental result on lead. It was found that both theoretical and experimental results followed a similar trend. Keywords
