The Responses of Reticulitermes spp. and Zootermopsis angusticollis (Isoptera) to Extracts from Woods Decayed by Various Fungi1

Abstract
Responses were studied of Reticulitermes flavipes (Kollar), R. virginicus (Banks), R. hesperus Banks, and Zootermopsis angusticollis (Hagen) to extracts from woods rotted by 25 different fungi. The responses of R. hesperus and Z. angusticollis did not suggest a good attractant source. R. flavipes responded strongly to the known attractant from Lenzites trabea Pers. ex Fr., and somewhat less strongly to the extract from Daedalea quercina (L.) Fr. R. virginicus responded well to both Poria monticola (b) Murr. and P. cocos (Schw.) extracts. No combinations of fungus extracts elicited a response from R. flavipes, but R. virginicus responded well to a mixture of P. monticola and P. cocos extracts.
