Abstract
The plane steady‐state detonation pressure behind the reaction zone of liquid TNT is reported. This pressure of 171.8 kilobars was established by measuring free‐surface velocity as a function of plate thickness for 2024 aluminum plates placed in contact with the detonating explosive. The zero thickness metal shock pressure, obtained by extrapolating the free‐surface velocity data, is corrected to the corresponding detonation pressure by an impedance matching calculation. Recording was done by a sweeping‐image camera technique. Keywords
