Abstract
The case for establishing national parks in Scotland is reviewed, following the publication of The Mountain Areas of Scotland: Conservation and Development by the Countryside Commission for Scotland. The experience of recently established parks in north‐east Spain is discussed. It is concluded that the lessons of these Spanish examples are positive and that they strengthen the case for national parks in Scotland. Keywords
