Abstract
The search for conducting organic solids and other new materials has paved the way for many discoveries in the chemistry of the chalcogen-based heterocyclic compounds. This focused interest has especially influenced the investigations into 1,3-dithiole-2-thione-4,5-dithiolate (DMIT) and its analogues, the DMIT series. The DMIT series possesses an interestingly diverse chemistry which will be described in this review. Special attention is devoted to describing new aspects of the organic chemistry of the DMIT series, including the synthesis of the parent heterocycles, oxidation and rearrangement reactions, alkylation and acylation reactions (including new routes to asymmetrically substituted DMIT derivatives), as well as the synthesis of macrocyclic derivatives of DMIT.Keywords
