Abstract
A method is described for the determination of creatine in biological fluids by the color reaction with diacetyl in the presence of [alpha]-naphthol. The creatine is partly separated before the color reaction by ion-exchange chromatography. Ion-exchange chromatography removes inhibitors of the diacetyl reaction, arginine (which gives a colored product with diacetyl) and creatinine. The separation and detection of creatine, creatinine and related compounds by paper chromatography is described. Keywords
