Abstract
With the use of the propiono-carmine staining technic the author has observed 3 successive nuclear divisions in the ascus of Patella melaloma, and has determined the number of chromosomes present during each division. Contrary to previous report the third division is non-reductional. It therefore appears that brachyomeiosis does not occur in this fungus and there can therefore be no double fertilization in the life cycle. Keywords
