Abstract
This article reports the results of a study designed to deter mine the rate of publication of professors of adult education, publication trends, kinds of publications, and selected author char acteristics. Eighty-one of the 155 eligible members of the 1972 Commission of Professors of Adult Education participated in the study by providing publications lists. The participating professors produced 2,098 publications between 1950 and 1973. They repre sent approximately 800 work years since date of graduation. Adult Education and Adult Leadership are identified as very important publication outlets for professors of adult education. Professors, however, write for a large number of different periodi cals. Respondents reported publishing in 338 different journals that ranged across a wide variety of disciplines and professional areas. Certain professors appear to publish consistently with great frequency, while others report a more erratic publication history. Publication activity by professors participating in this study can be characterized as varied. Variety marks the publication modes as well as the kinds of journals in which professors of adult education publish.
