Abstract
The investigation consists of 1006 patients who make up a representative cross—section of The State Hearing Centre's adult clientele with regard to age, sex, diagnosis and severity of hearing loss. 24% of the patients suffer from a pure conductive loss, while 21% have a mixed type, and 51% a perceptive type of impairment (3% were not classified). The information about the utilisation of hearing aids was given by the local pedagogue in co—operation with the patients 3–6 months after the supply of hearing aids. Some 52% use their aids in all waking hours, 38% use them daily according to need, 4% use them on special occasions, and 6% never use their hearing aids. The comparatively good results must be ascribed to the pedagogical training and after-care. The most severely afflicted patients and those with conductive losses were the best hearing aid users, regardless of age. Keywords
