Abstract
Two colour polarization maps of the Red Rectangle are presented which show that the object is a reflection nebula with the dust concentrated on a hollow biconical surface centred on HD 44179. The polarizations in the two wavebands (red and blue) imply that the broad red feature centred near Hα in the spectrum of the nebulosity originates in the nebular medium itself and is not reflected radiation from the central object. Keywords
