Abstract
The mutagenic activity of various drugs, pesticides, industrial chemicals and food additives is classified according to test standards for man and several test organisms. Spontaneous mutation was studied in the metabolic activation in Salmonella sulphimurium, S. typhimurium and yeast while cytogenetic analyses of the bone marrow of rats, mice and hamsters were examined. These results then were extrapolated for dose-response relationships in man and compared with actual results for cultured human lymphocytes. The metabolism and effects of these mutagens are considered in terms of their population occurrance and economic significance.
