Abstract

Field studies on the fauna of a grossly polluted stream containing Chironomus spp. and Tubificidae are described. The results are discussed in relation to distribution in time and space, and experiments on interspecific competition were carried out. The ability of morphologically similar species of tubificid to co-exist in the field is discussed.
